Rachel joined the WIVB news team in May, 2011. She previously worked at WBEN radio in Buffalo. Rachel spent four years in radio – beginning as a college intern and eventually working as a full-time news anchor and reporter.
Rachel is a (very) proud alumna of Geneseo State University. She majored in Communication, with concentrations in Journalism and Media Studies. She graduated Summa Cum Laude in December of 2008.
A Buffalo native, Rachel loves living and working in her hometown.
She is the granddaughter of former Associated Press Buffalo Bureau Chief, the late Tom Benton. It was from her grandpa that Rachel inherited her passion for news.
Outside of work, Rachel enjoys many hobbies. She loves reading – and not just the news. Some of her favorite authors include Carl Hiaasen, Sue Grafton and James Patterson. She is an avid runner and follows most sports, though she’s especially passionate about hockey. Rachel loves to cook; you’ll often find her in her kitchen trying out a new recipe (or making up her own!). Knitting is another of her favorite pastimes.
Rachel was a 2008 recipient of a student journalism award from the Rochester Audio-Visual Association. As a member of the WBEN news team, she has been nominated for three 2010-2011 Associated Press awards: Best Spot News Coverage – City Grill shootings, Best Spot News Coverage – Winter Storm / Stranded on the Thruway and Best Enterprise Reporting – The Bass Pro Saga.
