BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - If you're looking for something fun to do this summer and want a little history lesson at the same time, this may be for you!

"This is really one of Buffalo's forgotten landmarks."

The Central Terminal is the old train depot with a lot of history.

Maryanne Wasielewski said, "I grew up in a neighborhood not too far from here many years ago, so I remember the terminal as it was."

Mary Alice from West Seneca explained, "The last time I was here was about 30 years ago. I dropped somebody off here for a train ride and it's just a beautiful building and I've followed it along with the restoration and it's just a beautiful place!"

And that's why many people are taking this tour of the terminal.

It's one of many tours of the Western New York landmarks, given all summer long through Buffalo Tours. You've probably seen these brochures around town.

In 2009, the tours attracted people from over 30 countries. But they're not just for tourists.

Fred Schrock stated, "A lot of people from Buffalo or even the suburbs have not really spent a lot of time in Buffalo outside of their neighborhoods, so we're getting people to take vacations in their own backyard."

The Central Terminal is one of the most popular tours.

Marty Biniasz is a tour guide. He's also with the Central Terminal Restoration Corporation.

"Buffalo's Central Terminal is one of the last great train stations in America, if not the world, not to be restored. But they're working on that through education. Buffalo tours provides them that platform," Marty exclaimed.

The interesting things about these tours is that you not only get to see these historic places of Buffalo, you can find out more about them. For example, at the Central Terminal, the drive slopes upward when you drive in. That's because underneath the parking lot is a parking garage big enough to hold over 300 cars.

There are Buffalo Tours of downtown and city hall every weekday this summer and different unique tours every weekend.
