BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Hundreds of volunteers are bringing a year-round community farm to the middle of Buffalo's east side.
Western New York Americorps and an army of workers began putting up a greenhouse Thursday morning on Glenwood Avenue.
Home Depot donated the greenhouse, and workers will be adding rain barrels, raised flowerbeds, and a tilapia farm.
Director of Queen City Farm, Rod McCallum said, "Basically, what we're hoping it does for the community is provide opportunity to have members of the community come and build relationships."
"We were looking for a project having to do with green, and hunger, and recapturing the land, so this was a perfect project," explained Mark Lazzara.
The entire project should finish up later Thursday afternoon.
This green day of service also included crop-planting on Harvard Place and painting a community building at Glenwood and Fillmore avenues.
