NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Television producer, director and writer Sam Simon says having People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals' headquarters named after him is the greatest honor of his life.
PETA plans to name its Norfolk headquarters the Sam Simon Center on March 1. The group's president, Ingrid Newkirk, tells The Virginian-Pilot (http://bit.ly/Vp6zuy ) that Simon is a "kindred spirit and a soul mate when it comes to animal issues."
Simon tells the newspaper that he has supported PETA for 10 years.
He created the Sam Simon Foundation, which trains dogs from animal shelters to help veterans and people who are hard of hearing. It also provides free spaying and neutering of dogs and cats.
Simon is a co-creator of "The Simpsons."
