CATTARAUGUS, N.Y. (WIVB) - The health department in Cattaraugus County had to cancel a vaccine clinic for the H1N1 virus on Thursday.
And it's not the only clinic that's been called off.
Health department officials said a shortage of the vaccine left them with no choice but to cancel Thursday's clinic at the Ellicottville Fire Department. Friday's clinics at the Machias Fire Department and Salamanca Health Department and Saturday's clinic at the Dayton Fire Department have also been put on hold indefinitely.
The vaccines that were supposed to go to those clinics were instead sent to Ellicottville Central School on Thursday for children who fall in the high-risk category.
"My son, we saw on the news last night that a 5th grader had passed away in Genesee County and he said, Mommy am I going to get the shot? and I said well, what do you think. And he said, well I'd rather get the shot than die. So that really kinda hit me. So I realized I made the right decision," explained Christine Bacon.
These clinics will be rescheduled as soon as more supplies of H1N1 vaccine becomes available.
