CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) - The prognosis looked pretty shaky for a while, but now, the future looks promising for two local hospitals.

The State Health Department has granted "permanent life status" to the St. Joseph Campus of Sisters of Charity Hospital in Cheektowaga. The facility was previously saved from closure, but had only been granted a limited operating certificate through next June.

"This is certainly wonderful news for our patients, staff and the community long-served by St. Joseph and a validation of our belief that the campus is a valuable health asset, providing high quality care and jobs in the community," said Joseph D. McDonald, president and CEO of Catholic Health.

The state also granted a permanent waiver to Degraff Memorial in North Tonawanda.
