BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - It's important to remember this frigid weather can also be dangerous.
Meteorologist Lindsay Schwarzwaelder has tips on protecting you and your family.
Even though it's not very windy Friday morning, you still need to take precautions, because even a 10 mph breeze is bringing wind chill values in the -10 to -15 range. So here are a few tips for you.
1. Dress in layers, including hat and gloves. You also want those layers to be loose, because tight fitting clothing can restrict your blood flow.
2. Staying dry, because getting wet increases heat loss through evaporation.
3. Check space heaters for sufficient ventilation & wire condition.
4. For pets, don't keep them outside for a long period of time, especially those with short hair.
