BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - News 4 heard over and over again that children and pregnant women have the highest risk for the swine flu, and they should be first to be vaccinated.
But where can they get the vaccine?
Jennifer Restey has two-year-old child and another due to arrive on New Year's Day.
"I'm just really concerned about when we are going to get vaccinated," said Restey.
Being pregnant, Jennifer is in the high risk group. Frustrated, she sent News 4 email. She's called her doctors and her son's doctor since September. No one has any idea when or if they are getting the vaccine.
"Everyone I know is getting sick. A lot of my coworkers are getting sick. Children are being pulled from schools. And I'm concerned I might get sick," Restey said.
"We're not getting the vaccine that we need," said Pediatrician Dr. Roger Forden.
Dr. Roger Forden is one of many area doctors joining patients now forced to play the waiting game for vaccine. What News 4 found out from the state Health Department won't ease concerns.
"We have more than six million orders in house, but have only had access to ship about a million doses of vaccine," said Dr. Guthrie Birkhead of the New York State Health Department.
That works out to about one out of every six orders for the vaccine being shipped to doctors across the state.
Dr. Forden said, "We understand there are production problems. Parents are getting frustrated if not panicky in some cases."
With the recent deaths of several local young people linked to H1N1, the concern is growing. Jennifer Restey just wants to know when vaccine manufacturers will meet demand.
Restey said, "Kind of sitting around waiting. No one knows anything. You go on line trying to find clinics. I'm willing to drive."
So where are the vaccines?
News 4 called the Centers for Disease Control several times Wednesday trying to get an answer for you.
News 4 keeps hearing more vaccines are in the pipeline.
News 4 will follow up and let you know.
