ALBANY, N.Y. (WIVB) - State lawmakers are taking action against protests at military funerals.
The state Senate passed two measures that would restrict demonstrations outside the funerals of service members. The bill would prevent protesters from coming within a 500 foot radius of a funeral service. It would also require organizers to get a permit in order to gather within 2,500 feet of a funeral.
The Supreme Court recently ruled in favor of protesters at military funerals, saying the protests are protected by the First Amendment.
