BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - He hasn't been home in years, now a Buffalo soldier is spending Independence Day with loved ones for a very special reason.
He's used to wearing fatigues everyday, but now, Staff Sergeant Terrance Wiggins is dressed in his Sunday best as he celebrates the baptism of his great-niece on this 4th of July. Sgt. Wiggins is in the Army, serving in Iraq. Before that he was in the Navy. Sgt. Wiggins has always wanted a military career.
Wiggins said, "I wanted to go to Iraq."
And he'll go back in less than two weeks, but for now, he's just focused on spending time with his family.
"Just hang out with the family and see some faces I haven't seen in a long time, and just kinda relax and enjoy it all," said Wiggins.
And on this day, he takes on an important role in this baby girl's life. Wiggins is Zeniyah's godfather, another title he takes seriously.
Wiggins beamed, "I'm pretty proud of it."
Christina Price is little Zeniyah's mother and Wiggins's niece. She's proud of what her uncle is doing for our country.
Price said, "He's definitely a role model for everybody."
Like so many service men and women on this Independence Day.
