BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Western New York's veterans got a thank you on Monday from the hospital that cares for them.
Tha VA Hospital holds an open house every Valentine's Day week to show its appreciation for all the veterans treated there.
Vets and community members who stopped by the VA Monday afternoon enjoyed live banjo music, food, and autographs from the Buffalo Bills alumni. They also made visits to patients who weren't able to make it down to the festivities. A VA spokesperson says the event gets a great response from the community.
VA spokesperson Evangeline Conley said, "It definitely is a very positive experience. Veterans sacrifice so much for us each and every day. And just a simple thank you and a visit, knowing people do care about what they have done for all of us and for our freedom, is really appreciated by all of them."
Local schoolchildren also stopped by Monday to deliver Valentine's Day cards to let those who served know they are not forgotten.
