BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Erie's County's bomb squad commander tells News 4 the pipe bomb
could have killed someone had it exploded.
Investigators are now asking for the public's help in finding
the person who threw it inside the church.
This happened at the Redeeming Fellowship Church on Lewis
Street.
Someone kicked in a glass door on the side of the building
then tossed the pipe bomb inside shortly after ten Saturday night.
A resident in the neighborhood tells News 4 off camera, he
saw a glare inside the church as he was walking by and that's when
he dialed 911.
"Bombings in the city here are very rare, so we're actually looking at this as one of the most serious this year," said Lt. Sal Colangelo of the Buffalo Fire Marshals Office.
News 4 asked resident Becky Kurdziel, "What thoughts went
through your mind when you heard that?"
Kurdziel said, "That if me and my child were walking past
that door and someone opened it and it blew up like I couldn't
believe that someone would do that."
