BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - News 4's Wake-Up has been showing you ways to cut costs when planning a wedding.
Wednesday morning, Melissa Holmes shares some tips on how to get a high end designer look on a budget.
Will your wedding guests really know the difference if you spent $5,000 on a gown, or $500? Mary Ann Carr owner of MA Carr in Orchard Park says, probably not.
A stunning Vera Wang gown is about $6,700. A Jasmine gown is only $1,300. The modified sweetheart neckline, asymmetrical pleating and ruffled skirt are almost identical.
Carr said, "Vera Wang commands a price because she's Vera."
A Paloma Blanca gown is silk and might be considered a steal at $2,300, but you can save about $1,000 by choosing an Essence of Australia gown in taffeta. From the pleated bodice to the floral accents are near replicas.
"The similarities are striking, absolutely striking," said Carr.
Finally, Priscilla of Boston has a classic beauty for about $4,500, you can't get much closer than this Casablanca gown at only $850.
Carr said, "This has been a favorite of many brides."
It proves brides on a budget can still have beautiful lace and bead work, you just might want to stay away from alencon lace and swarovski crystals.
The very best deals, however, may come to those who wait for sample sales.
Carr said, "I had a gown, it was a Rina gown that was $3,000, that was discontinued, but it walked out the door for $299."
Proving a bride on any budget can feel like a princess on her wedding day.
MA Carr's next sample sale is actually coming up on March 19, 20, and 21. I know a lot of other bridal shops also hold annual or semi-annual sample sales, so you've just got to call and ask.
