HSBC to slash 77 jobs in HSBC Tower

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - HSBC Bank will be slashing 77 workers from its anti-money laundering team starting this September.

The bank has filed notice with the New York State Labor Department that it intends to lay off employees from this division between September 18 and October 18.

The division affected is located in the HSBC Tower in downtown Buffalo.  Workers started getting notifications this week. They will be given priority for other openings within HSBC.

The news comes days after HSBC sold off more than 100 retail bank branches for the First Niagara Financial Group.
