Fake automated messages

NEWSTEAD, N.Y. (WIVB) - We have an important consumer alert to pass along.

State police tell News 4, a fake automated message is being sent to people in the Town of Newstead and Village of Akron.

In that message, people are told there is a problem with their bank account and then the message prompts them to enter their account information.

Police say this is a scam and not to provide any information if you are called.
