Former Olympic equestrian faces charges

SPRINGVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) - A former Olympic equestrian from Springville is facing charges Friday night, of not telling a past sexual partner he was HIV positive.

Darren Chiacchia, who now lives in Florida, was arrested Wednesday, and charged with violating a state law that required him to declare his positive status.

The alleged victim claims Chiacchia lied to him about having HIV while they were dating.

Chiacchia was critically injured in a riding accident in 2008. He has since recovered from his injuries.
