BUFFALO, - Police in Amherst say an early Friday morning accident involving
a pedestrian and a vehicle has claimed a life.
It happened just after seven in the morning on Essjay road in
Amherst. Police say 41-year-old Joseph DiLeo was driving his two
girls to school and never saw 85-year-old Rakhil Lifshits trying to
cross the street.
Her daughter later told police that her mother has been
taking morning walks on Essjay road for quite some time. The 85
year old was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead
just before 7:30 a.m.
Driver Joseph Dileo was not charged in the accident, but the
investigation is ongoing.
