BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - It's April 15, Tax Day. If you haven't filed yet, your options
are limited this year for getting your returns postmarked with
today's date.
A lot of people are used to having several options when it
comes to getting those taxes post-marked on time. This year there
are only two options.
Unlike previous years, only two local post offices will
remain open until midnight. Buffalo's Main Office on William Street
and the Cauyaga Road Branch in Cheektowaga will be open late for
last-minute tax filers. Most other post offices will close at 5
p.m.

US postal service officials said tough financial times is one
of the reasons why fewer branches are open this year. Another
factor is the increasing popularity of filing taxes online.
More and more taxpayers are finding it cheaper and easier to
file their returns electronically. Postal officials estimate that
60 percent of tax payers are now using the Internet instead of the
post office.
It's important to note the Cayuga Branch is the only post
office in greater Buffalo that will be selling postage until
midnight as well as doing post marks.
