AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) - Some local female athletes say they want to play hockey, just like the guys.
Hundreds of girls and their families rallied at the Pepsi Center Sunday night.

They said there are no public school sponsored teams for girls in the region, and it's time for that to change.

"The friends, the friends you make on the team, it's really fun, and just the hockey all around, I just love hockey," said West Seneca hockey player Sara Hirschberger.

According to USA Hockey, girls ice hockey is one of the fastest growing sports in the country.
