BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - President Franklin Roosevelt called it "a date which will live in infamy."
Sunday, people across the country and in western New York are commemorating the 67th anniversary of Pearl Harbor.
It's the afternoon of December 7. The people gathered at the Naval and Military Park on Buffalo's waterfront are remembering those killed an injured the morning of December 7, 1941. The attack on Pearl Harbor. An attack that changed the nation.
"It showed in the children who collected scrap metal that was forged into bullets and bombs. It showed in those who gave blood, rationed and bought war bonds."
They bought bonds because America entered World War II.
"And the rocket's red glare. The bombs bursting in air."
Georgian Davis attends to remember her son killed by an explosion on the USS Iowa in 1989.
"It's my way of trying to remember my son by trying to attend every event honoring military personnel."
Military mother Candy Clemons said, "This is very important even though I did not have anyone in World War II. Because it helps us remember all of the soldiers and sailors and marines that were killed in Pearl Harbor."
This Sunday morning service at St. John's United Church of Christ in Buffalo also serves as a reminder. Back at the Naval Park, a wreath is laid in honor of those who served. Those who were injured. Those who died for their country.
