DERBY, N.Y. Press release - The Town of Evans Police, Highland, North Evans Fire Departments and Rural Metro Ambulance company responded to a male, unconscious, that was wedged approx. 30 feet high up in a tree, located in Derby, N.Y.
Upon patrols arrival and after interviewing several witnesses, it was determined that the male victim had climbed this tree and was cutting branches.
During this time, the 58 year old male victim complained to his friends below that he was dizzy and that he was going to climb down out of the tree.
While on his descent witnesses stated that the male victim started to have a seizure. They stated he then became lodged in between two branches where he laid motionless.
Due to the complex rescue attempt, Scranton fire department's ladder truck was called to the scene. After a short while, fireman where able to reach the victim with their ladder truck.
The victim was removed from the tree, lowered to the ground and eventually examined by Rural Metro personnel. The male victim showed no signs of life and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of death is under investigation. The victim's name will not be released until his family is notified.
