A teenager is helping honor the mothers of fallen heroes.

On Sunday morning, the VFW Private Leonard Post in Cheektowaga dedicated a gold star mothers monument for women who lost a child in service to the country.

14 year old, Jason Maybach of Bowmansville took this on as his Eagle Scout project, asking for businesses and individuals to provide money to pay for the memorial.

"They like to show stuff from their son or daughter and they're very nice to everybody. They love it when you come and just talk to them," Maybach said.

Terry Lambka said, "It's very important! Very very important. The scars are left on their hearts, I mean, these people have lost their own so that we can have a free country."

The post's only living gold star mother, Eleanor Zydel attended the ceremony.
