PEMBROKE, N.Y. (WIVB) - A multi-vehicle accident closed portions of the East-bound I-90 this evening.
It all stemmed from a multi-vehicle accident that took place in Genesee County. The accident occurred East of the Pembroke exit of the I-90 at approximately 5 pm Sunday evening.
There were 3 separate accidents involving 9 vehicles. There was a 3-car, a 4-car and finally a 2-car accident. Three people were treated at a Batavia hospital with only minor injuries and then released.
State police are blaming the accidents on rain and wet roads in addition to increased traffic due to Sunday's Bills game and Thanksgiving holiday traffic.
The East bound lanes were shut down for over an hour which caused an 18-mile backup according to State police. Even once the roads were re-opened, residual effects from tow trucks, abandoned cars on the side of the road and drivers slowing down caused additional delays until approximately 8:30 pm Sunday evening.
