A man accused of beheading his estranged wife at their TV studio in Orchard Park faced a judge Friday morning. It was a brief arraignment in court for 44 year old Muzzammil Hassan.
The founder of the Bridges TV network said only a few words when responding to judge Thomas Franzczyk, mainly that he understood his rights in entering a plea of not guilty.
Prosecutors in this case did ask the judge to not allow bail in this case citing that Hassan is a flight risk. Hassans attorney John Harington did not challenge that request.
His client will remain in jail. After the arraignment, Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita said, "Mister Hassan is a native of Pakistan. He's obviously facing extraordinary charges. He's charged with an offense that the punishment will be life in prison, so we feel that he is a flight risk."
A date of April 16 has been set for this trial to begin.
