BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The plan to downsize government in Amherst has been shot down.
Monday night it appeared the Amherst Town Board was on the verge of putting a plan to downsize itself to a public referendum.

In the end there was not enough of a consensus among board members to move forward.
Town Supervisor Satish Mohan included several stipulations as part of an initial agreement to put the plan to trim the board from seven members to five to a public vote.

Civic Leader Kevin Gaughan said now is the time local communities need to consider this type of cost-saving measure.
