BUFFALO, N.Y.(WIVB) - The Queen City is honoring a native son who spent more than two decades in prison, for crimes he did not commit.

A portion of Jersey Street will now be known as Anthony Capozzi Way.

Councilman David Rivera and State Assemblyman Sam Hoyt joined Anthony's family for Friday's unveiling.

"This dedication means a great deal to my family. My mother and father have lived here for many many years.. over 20 years. And this is just a way of showing the city of Buffalo how much we appreciate them standing behind us and recognizing and supporting my brother Anthony. And I thank you," said Capozzi's sister Sharyn Miller.

Capozzi was exonerated by DNA evidence back in 2007.

He was serving time for two Delaware Park rapes from the 1980s.

Bike path rapist and killer, Altemio Sanchez has been convicted of those crimes.
