Security cameras capture suspects

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The number of crimes caught on camera seems to be increasing. Cameras are helping catch criminals often, because of how accessible cameras are and how well they can capture an image.

Buffalo Police are looking for a man who's suspected of taking a purse from the Albright Knox, and his face is clearly visible in a surveillance video.

Then there's another man who was caught on camera. At one point, he even looked right into the camera. Amherst Police say he took about a $150 worth of merchandise from a store on Niagara Falls Boulevard.

President of Shield Security Systems Ken Jezioro said, “In some cases they look at the camera and think ‘oh rats its too late they already got me.’”

Cheektowaga Police are looking for a suspected bank robber who was caught on camera putting on his ski mask.

Jezioro said, “When a would be burglar walks into a building they might notice a camera, but they might not realize how clear the picture quality is.”

“It’s really hard to determine what someone is thinking when they look at these cameras but they do,” said Jezioro.

Former veteran police officer and now president of Shield Security Systems, Ken Jezioro, says security camera quality keeps getting better. The cost is reasonable, but that isn't stopping criminals who don't seem to be afraid of getting caught on camera.

Jezioro said, “I think they know they're being taped but I think deep down inside they think nobody will recognize them.”

Security cameras are also more accessible than ever before. Jezioro explained that there is an app where you can use your phone and see live surveillance video.  Jezioro can literally spy on his office from anywhere.

He said, “I don't think the public understands that the quality is that good.”

You can't stop every criminal but now we can see them clearer than ever before and that's helped law enforcement get more criminals off the streets.
