Town of Hinsdale, NY (WIVB) - At approximately 8:25 am Thursday morning, State Police in Olean responded to a report of a car vs. tractor trailer serious injury accident with entrapment on ST-16 at I-86 in the Town of Hinsdale.

State Troopers Fisher, Zeigler and Dubin responded along with the Hinsdale Fire Department and Trans Am Ambulance.

Zachary Vandenberg, 22 years old of Olean, was operating a 2003 Dodge Neon northbound on ST-16 in the left lane when he was struck by a 2005 Peterbuilt tractor trailer operated by Elbert Durfee, 54 years old of Ogden, Utah.

The tractor trailer was traveling southbound on ST-16, attempting to make a left turn onto the I-86 entrance ramp. Durfee reported not seeing the Dodge Neon as he made the left turn into the northbound lane, subsequently striking the vehicle.

Mr. Durfee was not injured in the accident and was issued a vehicle and traffic ticket for failure to yield right of way.
