Commissioner Lombardo says 45 year old Lt. Charles “Chip” McCarthy and 34 year old Jonathan Croom were both killed after being trapped inside a building located at 1815 Genesee Street.
Lt. McCarthy, from Rescue One, leaves behind a wife, three children and a grandchild. Croom, from Ladder 7 and a 10 year veteran of the department, is survived by his fiancée and 9 month old child.
There were reports early on that someone was trapped and could be heard screaming from the basement of the building. However, no other bodies have been discovered inside at this point.
