Amherst police are asking the public for help

AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) - ECMC emergency/trauma patient Amy Stewart, injured in a hit and run accident in March 2009, was discharged from ECMC Wednesday.

Two female college students were hit by an SUV overnight, the driver never stopped. Amherst police are asking the public for help.

Police say just before 2 a.m., a UB grad student and a Daemen College senior were struck when crossing Main Street at Campus Drive, near Daemen College. Both women were taken to ECMC.

The UB grad student, 22 year old Amy Stewart is from Grand Island and sustained head trauma. The Daemen College senior, 21 year old Rachel Baird is from East Syracuse and suffered chest and abdomen injuries.

Witnesses reported the SUV as dark colored and that it continued driving west on Main Street after it hit the two women.

The SUV may be black and may be a 90s model. It should have front end damage, especially in the grill area.
