Amherst police need your help finding the driver

SNYDER, N.Y. (WIVB) - Amherst police need your help finding the driver who hit two local college students and took off.

Police say 22-year-old Amy Stewart of Grand Island and 21-year-old Rachel Baird of Syracuse, were crossing Main Street at Campus Drive around two Saturday morning when they were struck.

Stewart, a grad student at UB, was taken to ECMC with head trauma.

She's currently in critical condition.

Baird, a senior at Daemen College, suffered chest and abdominal injuries.

Police say witnesses described the vehicle as a dark colored SUV, may be a 90's model.

Police say it should have heavy front-end damage, especially in the grill area.

Amherst Police is experiencing technical problems on the originally listed tip number (689-1355.) The new number is 689-1311, main telephone number for the Amherst Police Department. It is anticipated that the originally listed number will be back in service on 03/09/09.
