JAMESTOWN, N.Y. (WIVB) - The MacDonald family stopped by their old house in Jamestown to get another look at the extensive damage, and remember the dog they lost in a March 29th fire.
All seven family members and three visiting relatives were inside during the early morning blaze.
"My brother had made it downstairs and the volunteer fireman
from down the street reached in the breezeway and pulled him out
but he was burned pretty bad," said Angel MacDonald.
Marty Anderson suffered second and third degree burns, and
was just released from ECMC last week. "I'm not too happy
about it, kind of wondering when I'm gonna get the full use of my
hand back," Anderson said.
Marty's mom Amy lived in the house with her daughters Holland
and Angel. Angel MacDonald has a 7-year-old, 2-year-old, and
a newborn.
"It's really hard. Especially with little kids. My son was
premature, he's only home for four days when the fire happened,"
said Angel MacDonald.
They lost everything in the fire, and have no place to go.
They let their home owner's insurance lapse in January.
"When my ex left there was no money to pay the insurance, barely
enough money to pay the bills," said Amy MacDonald.
They've been staying at area hotels but have to leave
tomorrow, because donations have dried up.
The fire was bad enough but the uncertain future is making it worse.
Holland MacDonald said, "Where we going to go now? Who's gonna help us? It's just scary."
"You don't think that anything like that will ever happen to you
and when it does you'd think there'd be a lot more help," Angel
MacDonald said.
