CLARENCE, N.Y. (WIVB) - One year ago today Colgan Air flight 3407 crashed into a Clarence home while on it's way to Buffalo from Newark, NJ. Supporters, families and friends have gathered at the scene of the crash, which was a home that belonged to Karen and Doug Wielinski.
Last year, Karen Wielinski and her daughter Jill made it out of the home, but her husband Doug did not.
As supporters began their walk from Long Street to the Buffalo Niagara International Airport, many wore the color red. This is symbolic of something we have seen by family members of flight victims. They have been seen at NTSB hearings wearing that color, in support of the loved ones they lost.
A walker who lost her niece in the crash talked to News 4, as she wore her niece's picture in honor of her. The walker explained this week has been very hard for her, and being at the crash scene for the first time is especially hard.
According to officials News 4 spoke with Thursday, there are about 500 people participating in the walk.
