5K features runners in underwear

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Of all cancers that affect both men and women, the CDC says colon cancer is the second deadliest cancer in this country.

That's why the Colon Cancer Alliance is trying to spread the word through fun events such as the "Undy 5000." Thursday night, Artisan Kitchen and Baths in Buffalo hosted a kick-off event for the family friendly 5K run and walk that doesn't discriminate against boxers or briefs.

Local race chair Tess Fraser said, "We encourage participants to run or walk in their underwear. This is to draw attention to the area affected by colon cancer. So it's a silly theme but it also has a very serious message."

The Undy 5000 will take place April 27 at Delaware Park. Sign up here.
