NEW YORK, N.Y. (WIVB) - Each year, TheKnot.com and the Empire State Building hold a Valentine's Weddings Event. This year, a couple from Buffalo were among the lucky newlyweds.
Jennifer Cunningham and Michael Grzeskowiak wed on Valentine's Day as part of the 17th Annual Empire State Building & TheKnot.com Valentine's Weddings Event. They were one of 14 couples who won the chance to wed atop the NYC's tallest building by getting the most votes on TheKnot.com.
According to the story they submitted to TheKnot.com, the couple met while they were just teens in high school. Michael proposed to Jennifer three times. The first time, their parents told them they were too young. The second proposal came during while Jennifer was in college, but the day Michael was supposed to go to the jewelers, the couple was involved in a bad car accident. Michael had to have multiple surgeries as a result.
Later, he proposed a third time, and as Michael put it, he wanted the chance to wed atop the Empire State Building because "I want to stand above one of the greatest cities in the world, and tell everyone Jennifer is finally my wife!"
The couple finally got to tie the knot on February 14th.
