BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Buffalo Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda confirmed the murder charges against McCray during a news conference at police headquarters Wednesday night.
Derenda said, "The suspect was charged with four counts of murder in the second degree. He was taken into custody at 2:30 at 2077 Elmwood after surrendering to police inside Channel 4 studios."
While police are relieved that the prime suspect, 23-year-old Riccardo McCray, is behind bars, they say it's not over yet.
"This investigation continues. We ask anyone with information to please come forward. We know there are a lot of witnesses. We believe we have a real solid case," said Derenda.
And police are asking us not to show the suspects face. They say it could hurt their case.
Derenda explained, "I ask that the press please don't publicize his picture. A lot of people out there may have to ID him in a photo album or a lineup."
Police say they put a lot of pressure on McCray and that's the reason they believe he turned himself into police here at Channel 4 Wednesday.
"Last night, we had 75-80 officers working with our SWAT team working with other agencies to numerous locations where we believe the suspect might have been hiding out. We put a lot of pressure at numerous places and we believe the pressure might have gotten to him. People didn't get a lot of sleep since August 14th," said Derenda.
But they'll likely sleep better now, believing the prime suspect in the City Grill massacre is behind bars.
