ECHDC looks for artists to paint Skyway

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation continues in its mission to help re-vamp the city's waterfront.

On Tuesday, the ECHDC announced it had approved funding for construction of a restaurant on the ground floor and patio of the Bufflao and Erie County Naval and Military Park. The museum will gets $182,000 with a 10 percent reserve used for construction contingency that will not exceed $200,000. The money will be used for capital improvements.

Also on Tuesday, the ECHDC put out a call to artists. The corporation is looking for internationally and critically acclaimed artists who can design large scale public art commissions for the Skyway and/or the Connecting Terminal Grain Elevator.

The ECHDC will work with the New York Power Authority, which owns the elevator, and the NYS Department of Transportation, which owns the Skyway, to draw in talent to WNY. The project's budget is between $1.5 million and $2 million. All artists who wish to be considered must submit their qualification materials by noon on October 6th.
