Garden named for "peaceprints" starter

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - She spent a lifetime preaching peace. On Wednesday, friends revealed a tribute to her mission of activism.

Sister Karen Klimczak's life ended at the hands of a killer four years ago, but Wednesday a memorial to her work was unveiled at a church in Buffalo.

Wednesday morning, the blessing of the Sister Karen Peace Garden was held at St. Columba Brigid Church. Father Roy Herberger was a longtime friend of Sister Karen Klimczak, and he's based at St. Columba Brigid.

The peace garden has several bricks and mounted "peace plaques," along with four large boulders that tell her life story. One is a portrayal of her dove and signature slogan, "I leave peaceprints." Among those on hand for the blessing Wednesday, Sister Karen's twin sister, Jean.

Sister Jean Klimczak said, "I believe that she gave us the sign of peace, the peace dove, but she became the sign, and she's always challenged us to be those signs."

The garden's unveiling is timed to coincide with what would be Sister Karen's birthday.
