BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Just hours after the prime suspect surrendered to our Senior Correspondent Rich Newberg and police right here at Channel 4, Riccardo McCray has now been charged with four counts of second degree murder.
McCray arrived at our Elmwood Avenue studios in North Buffalo about 2pm with community activist Darnell Jackson, his lawyer and Bishop Perry Davis from the Stop the Violence Foundation. McCray, the father of a one-year old boy, told Senior Correspondent Rich Newberg he learned he was a person of interest in the August 14th shooting rampage just three days ago.
Police spokesman Mike DeGeorge said, "Obviously, some significant developments in the City Grill shooting case."
Mayor Byron Brown said, "I want to commend the Buffalo Police Department for bringing the suspect from the shootings outside the City Grill to custody."

The mayor added that the combined efforts of law enforcement agencies put continued pressure on McCray, adding that homicide detectives worked around the clock to bring the suspect to justice. Additionally, the mayor appealed for anyone with any information about the shooting to come forward.
Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda said, "We're here to announce the arrest of one Riccardo McCray, aged 23 of East Ferry in Buffalo, for the multiple homicides that took place on August 14th outside of City Grill on Main Street. The suspect was charged with four counts of murder in the second degree this afternoon. He was taken into custody about 2:30 at 2077 Elmwood after surrendering to detectives inside of Channel 4 studios. This investigation continues. We ask that anyone with information please come forward. We know there's many more people out there that witnessed this."
Last night, we had upwards of 75 to 80 officers, including FBI agents, working with our SWAT team, working with other agencies, out to numerous locations where we believe the suspect might have been hiding out. We believe that was part of the reason for turning himself in today. We put a lot of pressure at numerous places and I believe the pressure might have gotten to him," added Derenda.
We'll have the latest on this story on News 4 at 10 and 11.
