BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - As the tireless search came to a halt at our studios, law enforcers who've refused to rest since the massacre reacted strongly to Riccardo McCray's surrender.
What happens now? That's the question many people are asking after the prime person of interest in the City Grill massacre turned himself in here at Channel 4 on Wednesday. We spoke with police shortly after Riccardo McCray was taken into custody.
Chief of Detectives Dennis Richards said, "As far as taking him into custody, it was developed in the very recent past that Riccardo McCray was a key person of interest in the events of the City Grill shooting, which led to eight people being shot, four fatally."
Richards was here at Channel 4 when McCray turned himself in. He says police have been searching tirelessly for McCray.
"We've worked with every local and state and federal agency in trying to develop information. There've been all types of information on his possible whereabouts as you can imagine. I know the media was looking for us to come up with a name earlier," said Richards.
Police are asking us and other members of the media to refrain from using McCray's picture.
Richards explained, "It's very critical to the prosecution in this case if his picture is in anyway published in printed or TV press, members of the public may see that and say they recognize that person and that taints the identification because we are saying this is the individual."

Police say a few witnesses have come forward, but they believe there are a lot more.
"Still investigating, we're still looking for witnesses to come forward and perhaps with information that this person is in custody right now, maybe more people will come forward," said Richards.
Meanwhile, McCray is in police custody.
Richards said, "His attorney will represent him and if he so chooses allow him to be questioned, so that remains to be seen."
Police say there were as many as 150 witnesses on August 14th when eight people were shot, four killed.
