BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - More than two dozen World War II veterans are preparing to take off on a trip of a lifetime.

Wednesday night, Honor Flight Buffalo held a meet and greet for the 27 veterans and their guardians who will fly to the World War II monument in D.C. on September 11th.

Lisa Wylie, President of Honor Flight of Buffalo, said, "It took over 59 years to build the WWII Memorial. One of those veterans that didn't get down there to see it was my dad. And I figured what better way to honor my father than to start an organization and get his buddies down there."

Honor Flight Buffalo purchases the plane tickets through Southwest Airlines to fly the vets to D.C. and there is a waiting list of 200 other local veterans hoping to see their monument. To find out how you can make a donation to Honor Flight, or become a guardian, follow this link.
