BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Students at a school in Buffalo are getting a lesson from a Buffalo Bills Hall of Famer - but it's not about football.

As a former star player in the NFL, Thurman Thomas knows a lot about fitness and nutrition. Monday, he was sharing that knowledge with students at the Frederick Law Olmsted School on Suffolk Street in Buffalo.

Thurman has teamed up with the American Dairy Association to get children revved up for their new breakfast in the classroom program. In an interactive assembly, Thurman called breakfast the most important meal of the day, but it can be a challenge.

"Now you have the iPad, the iPhone, the XBox, all that stuff that really can keep a kid inside and so, yes, it's definitely a challenge for, not only myself, but also the parents," Thomas said. "We live in tough times right now. It's always difficult to get the kids to do certain things, but if you catch them at the right time, at the right age, you'll get your point across."

Thomas led students in pushups and other exercises and showed them that he knows his way around the kitchen by helping cook them breakfast. This is another way the NFL's Play 60 program is urging children to live healthier lives.
