BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The NHL lockout has left western New York without ice hockey this year, but not bubble hockey.
The Buffalo Museum of Science is celebrating the closing weekend of the exhibit the science of sports with this New Era Bubble Hockey Tournament. Sixty-four teams, each made up of two players, duked it out under the dome Friday night.
Amy Biber, the museum's marketing manager, said, "And within the 64 teams we actually have the top five ranked bubble hockey players in the U.S. playing here tonight."
Player Mark Wojtkiewicz said, "We've got guys in from Jersey and Connecticut to play. And Buffalo's quite a hot bed for bubble hockey."
Proceeds benefit the museum. And did you know this: bubble hockey as we know it today was invented in Tonawanda in 1983 and continues to be made by the company Innovative Concepts in Entertainment in Clarence.
