BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Some of our troops serving in the War on Terror will be in the capable hands of a western New York surgeon.
Co-workers hosted a farewell party Thursday at the Gates Vascular Institute in Buffalo for Dr. James Budny, a neuro-surgeon who is dedicating his time, talent and skills for our soldiers overseas.
Dr. Budny is going to Germany at the end of the month to work with the medical corps for the U.S. Army Reserve. He will be treating our soldiers wounded during combat in Afghanistan.
"There will be head and spine injuries, most of them will be blast injuries from IEDs. They're very sick soldiers and they have a long road ahead of them and it's my job to stabilize them so they can come home," Dr. Budney said.
The surgeon, who is a colonel in the Army Reserves, is making this commitment to our country for 120 days.
