BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - New York officials say they are cracking down on overly smoky diesel trucks crossing the Peace Bridge in Buffalo.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation says an enforcement detail will target smoking diesel truck traffic in the plaza area. Agency officials said Thursday that sweeps on the bridge to Canada will include periodic inspection checkpoints and violation fine warnings.
The enforcement actions are being conducted with the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority and are aimed at reducing pollution in the surrounding neighborhood.
An initial compliance sweep conducted in May resulted in 17 commercial vehicle inspections, four tickets and one warning.
State officials say they will hold similar enforcement details for the Peace Bridge plaza this summer.
