BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Parents in Buffalo were given a crash course in getting their children ready for the future Tuesday night.
The District Parenting Coordinating Council hosted the event at the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts. Topics ranged from organizing skills to getting parents more involved with their child's school. Parents also learned more about the "Say Yes program," which provides free college tuition to graduates.
Jessica Bauerwalker said, "What we're really trying to do is let parents know what their options are. Parents have a lot of options, parents have a lot of rights for their children, and sometimes they're not aware of that."
The council is also encouraging parents to sign a petition to close failing schools at the end of the year and re-open them as charter schools.
