BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - An east side church has solved a long-standing mystery.
Copper domes atop Corpus Christi Church on Clark Street were rumored to contain hundreds of letters written by parish schoolchildren more than 100-years ago. While the building was undergoing restoration, the domes were opened in August and weathered remains of letters and crosses were discovered inside. Now, church members are writing new letters for future generations.
Church secretary Chris Cooley said, "I just put down the good wishes that I wish, for the future for this parish. People are putting down people that are sick, and they want their note to be a little closer to God than is here on Earth."
This time the letters will be better protected from the elements. They'll be put into the church cupola by Thanksgiving.
