BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Dozens more complaints are piling-up against an accused no-show snow plow driver.
When western New York got buried under the first real snow of the season, dozens of homeowners and businesses claim they got a "snow job" by a snowplow operator - or someone posing as one.
Ann Marie Principato and her mom, Catherine Cammarata, hired Terry Jarvis to plow their driveways at Ann Marie's apartment house and Catherine's home. Both women have serious health problems, so snow removal is critical. But Jarvis never showed up.
Ann Marie says she paid $300 cash in person to Terry Jarvis's family members.
"I met his wife and I met his daughter. Terry, I just talked to him on the telephone," said Ann Marie.
But other customers say Terry Jarvis may be a woman - not the voice on the phone. After getting stiffed, Catherine went to the address listed on Jarvis' letterhead - the same house we checked out on Kensington Avenue.
"And there was nobody there. I rang the bell, and there was nobody there. They had letters on the door, taped - all the complaints - so it wasn't just me," said Catherine.
Karen Delphard is also a customer of Terry Jarvis, and with her health issues, she and her sister were relying on Jarvis to plow them out.
Karen said, "We feel like we have been hung out to dry, which we were for that day - actually for two-and-a-half days - we could not get out of this house."
But there is a silver lining. A snowplow contractor saw our story last week and learned about Karen's plight. Now she seems to be set for the winter. Ryan Lee has agreed to step in for the "no-show" Jarvis customers, including Karen. Lee, an Iraq War veteran, seems to take "service" seriously.
"We felt somebody had to do something. There's so many people that have been ripped off now, and most of them that I have found have been elderly or handicapped, and these are people that need our services," said Lee.
But now Lee says he has a full plate. He has his regular paying customers, and has already taken on about 20 of Jarvis'. But if he can get another truck, he says he can take on some more.
If you feel you are a victim of Terry Jarvis snowplowing, call the Attorney General's Consumer Hotline at 853-8404.
