BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Now that summer tourists are leaving Buffalo's waterfront, work crews are moving in for another round of improvements.
Friday afternoon, Mayor Byron Brown announced plans for one point three million dollars in upgrades to the Erie Basin Marina. The plans include renovating the Hatch restaurant and adding a new second floor patio. Crews will also build a new ice cream gazebo, which comes with a $400,000 price tag.
The mayor says the time is right and comes after the Hatch's best season ever.
"We've got super momentum right now on the waterfront. We want to continue that momentum; we want to continue to provide places to eat where people can go and enjoy themselves in the restaurant, and we think we have a great thing in the Hatch and we just want to make it better," Mayor Brown said.
In 2012, the city spent nearly a million dollars on improvements to the Erie Basin Marina including a new boardwalk, handicap accessible restrooms, and new security gates for boaters at the marina.
