BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Western New York's premier cancer center is focusing on lung cancer this weekend.
Roswell Park Cancer Institute hosted a preview of Saturday's "Breath of Life" celebration. Patients and their families are able to learn about new approaches to diagnosis, treatment and research of a disease that claims 160,000 lives in this country each year from patients as well as doctors.
Associate Professor of Oncology Dr. Martin Mahoney said, "It becomes a peer-to-peer conversation almost. It's one thing for a physician to counsel a patient and their family about what this means in their life. It's a whole other dimension to hear one patient share their experience with a group of other patients."
November marks Lung Cancer Awareness Month.
